\nTIPS FOR VOICE CARE<\/strong><\/p>\n

16 April is World Voice Day and we want to pay tribute to this tool that we use all day long by asking ourselves this question: are we taking enough care of it?<\/p>\n

The voice is the main working tool of interpreters and also of all the speakers for whom we interpret at our congresses or meetings. We dread the arrival of the cold or the air conditioning in summer, as a sore throat can make work a nightmare.<\/p>\n

Difference between aphonia and dysphonia (or hoarseness)<\/strong><\/p>\n

These terms are often confused or thought to be synonymous, but aphonia is not the same as dysphonia or hoarseness. Aphonia is the total absence of voice while dysphonia or hoarseness is irritation of the larynx and vocal cords.<\/p>\n

Cures for dysphonia:<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you are dysphonic, you can drink homemade broths. The broth should not be excessively hot, as this would also irritate the vocal cords. Another option is herbal teas containing thyme, ginger or lemon. We also recommend propolis. It is a natural antibiotic and can be found in tablet, spray and syrup form.<\/p>\n

What should we do to take care of our voice?<\/strong>
\nHere are some tips that can help both speakers and interpreters to take care of their most precious tool: the voice.<\/p>\n

Yes <\/strong>
\n– Drink plenty of water (2 litres per day)
\n– Breathe deeply and project your voice when speaking
\n– Eat foods rich in vitamins A, E and C (fibre, fruits and vegetables)
\n– If you speak in public, use a microphone<\/p>\n

No <\/strong>
\n– Avoid spicy foods and alcohol
\n– Don’t smoke
\n– Don’t strain your voice in noisy places
